On 13 October 2015, the last 32 of the 164 memorial stones in Veendam and Wildervank were laid. With this, the Stichting Herdenkingsstenen Veendam-Wildervank (SHVW) had completed the laying and unveiling of the stones.

Shortly afterwards, a deeI of the board, namely Ankie Steenhuis, Koos Gräper, Henk Journée and Bram Houtkruijer, bade farewell to the foundation. Three members of the board (Arie Broekema, Gerard Caneel and Jarry van der Velde) continued with the educational project 'W.O.II/remembering'. This involved all primary and secondary schools in the municipality of Veendam. A number of pupils from the Winkler Prins (secondary school) are working on a Jewish project involving research into the Jewish people in Veendam and Wildervank who were deported during the war and for whom our Foundation has laid a stone with the aim of giving these people a 'face' again. The full implementation of that project will take quite some time before all 164 people, for whom a stone has been laid, have been given a 'face'.

After a partnership of more than three years, the last three board members have indicated that they will also retire. .

Besides the education project, the three-member board has also developed a 'stone route map' showing exactly where the stones are, including a brief description. The route is available from the VVV Veenkoloniën in the Veenkoloniaal Museum, Museumplein 5 in Veendam. Those interested can travel the whole/part of the route by bicycle or on foot.

Two more information boards have also been placed at the monument on Prins Bernhardlaan and at the Jewish cemetery in Ommelanderwijk.
In summary: with this newsletter, the SHVW board announces that as of 01-01-2019, the foundation will cease to exist permanently.

All documents of the foundation have been transferred to the municipality of Veendam and included in the archive.

The website (www.SHVW.nl) will continue to exist but will no longer be updated.
